Are you frustrated with yourself? Want to get back into shape? Want to return to a work-out routine? Do you live in an area that's unsafe to walk or jog through? Finally, do you have one thing barring your way from being able to join a gym- that being a lack of finances to get the membership? Be frustrated no more, there are several ways to get an affordable gym membership. Do not give up, where there's a will there's a way.
First things first, find out if your local YMCA has a gym. If they do, their memberships for individuals and families are usually much cheaper than commercial gyms- not to mention, a YMCA membership usually allows for other extra-curricular activities and various exercise classes with the one price being paid.
If you can not afford to pay for a single gym membership for just yourself, talk to a family member or a friend who's also interested in working out, and discuss the possibility of splitting a "family" or group membership between the two of you . It's often cheaper for two people or more (by the time the membership is divided up by individual) to join a gym than it is for a single person to do it by themselves.
Some employers or colleges also will put a certain amount of money towards an employee or student's membership to a local gym, which will make for a more affordable gym membership for the individual. Some college campuses even have gyms on campus which are free for students to use during certain hours, check with your employer or your college to see if any of these situations apply for you.
If you are a member of a church, you may check into whether or not your church has a gym or workout room- some churches do, and they are free for members to use generally. Sometimes they'll even let non-members use their workout facilities for a small fee as well. It would be worth it to check with your local churches to see if they have any sort of programs for workouts or a workout room.
Pool your resources together with a friend, and discuss other ways to get an affordable gym membership. Sometimes word of mouth getting around will help you find the best deal, and if you put the word out with enough people, someone will end up getting back to you with exactly what you are looking for. You could also try a different gym every few weeks (if you live in a large area) whenever local gyms are offering a week or two free or a discounted membership for a month.
The point is, if you want to workout and get back into shape there is a way to do it, use your imagination- and be willing to look at options you would not ordinarily look into. If all else fails, a workout VHS tape or DVD in your living-room is a good option to get you started on the right track.
